Productive Day Off!

Up above is a sneak preview of my new "Hells Yeah!" Ballerina t-shirt, which will be a party of Wednesday's shop update.

I am kind of in a "Hells Yeah!" kinda mood today since I have gotten so much done! It's my day off from work (day job), so I am spending it focusing on Etsy and making stuff. I burned a bunch of screens and printed a ton of t-shirts and totes with images including sewing machines, bison, moustaches, and more! I even cropped a bunch of photos on Photoshop, which I usually hate doing. Hopefully I will have a huge shop update prepared for Wednesday night. In the meantime, there are some new whale shirts in the shop.

Other Random Goodness:

*I'm really close to having a big dream of mine come true - keep your fingers crossed! I can't tell you what it is yet, but it *may* happen this summer...

*Been watching some really good/thought provoking movies lately: Blue Valentine, the Social Network, The Shift, and more!

*Had a little housewarming party the other day, and it was wonderful! So much good conversation, good food, and a good movie (In the Realms of the Unreal, about the art of Henry Darger).

*I signed up to take an online painting class with two of my favorite painters, Lisa Congdon and Mati McDonough. I need a little nudge to get me back into painting again, and I think this will help do the trick. I can't wait until it starts! Get more information here: http://www.getyourpainton.typepad.com/

*I've been drawing and drawing and drawing...t-shirt designs for my day job and for my Etsy shop. It's funny how resistant I am to using the computer for making/editing the drawings... I still insist on sharpies and white out, always!

That's all for now; gotta get back to work. But I will post again on Wednesday when I have some goodies ready for the shop update.

Until then, I hope your week is off to a great start!

Stress Increases in Eurozone; Portuguese, Spanish, Irish, and Italian 10-Year Yields All Make New Highs

Eurozone sovereign debt yields pushed higher across the board today. Irish debt has topped 12% for the first time, Italian debt topped 5% and most Euroland debt yields are at all times high spreads compared to Germany.

Significantly, yields are at fresh new highs for Spain, Italy, Ireland and Portugal.

If by any chance you are wondering whether to believe EU officials or the bond markets, I suggest you believe the bond markets.

The charts below are delayed, but the quotes are accurate. Stress increases in Eurozone.

Spain 10-Year Government Bond Yield

Portugal 10-Year Government Bond Yield

Italy 10-Year Government Bond Yield

Ireland 10-Year Government Bond Yield

Greece 10-Year Government Bond Yield

Greece 2-Year Government Bond Yield

If EU and ECB officials thought they solved something with their Greek bailout maneuvers, the bond market disagrees and so do I.

Solstice Sun

Getting used to seasonal shifts in daylight hours has been one of the hardest things to adapt to since moving to Europe. Although I spent many years in New Zealand when I was young, I lived near the equator long enough to develop a preference for daylight hours of equal length all year round. Still, being dragged comatose around the countryside by the dog early every morning means I'm still guaranteed to get a small dose of sunshine every day.

Metropolis Necklace-Etsy Beadweavers Challenge

This month's Etsy Beadweavers challenge theme, Fashion Through the Ages , struck a chord with me because I had a pattern developed that fit perfectly with the Art Deco style of design. I created the triangular portion of my Metropolis Necklace using the pattern I made with my BeadTool design program and stitched it in herringbone using 4 beads at a time. Then I worked upward in brick stitch to a decent choker width of 1/2" and finished out the rest of the choker in peyote. I had fun looking through my vintage button collection and found the perfect button to complement the Art Deco design. Of course, I finished it all last minute and could only get some basic photos done. Next time, no procrastinating (yeah right) ! You can check out all the amazing entries from our beadweaving team now and vote on March 8th.

If you're a newcomer to the stitching thing and are a bit stumped by the phrase: "Just print off a copy, transfer to your fabric and off you go!" (I'm sure I've used those words before.) ...Sparkly Green Knickers has put up a iron on pencil tutorial here. And I think it's fabulous! [Check out her cute scooter design too.]

"Adrift" Freeform Bracelet

"Adrift" Freeform Bracelet, originally uploaded by ambrosianbeads.

Again, a tale of procrastination and inertia but with a happy ending ! This bracelet started out as a project for the EBW Spring Swap, but I had a hard time moving ahead using these colors....they just don't motivate me. I used them because my swap partner liked "earth tones." I searched my bead stash for the "earthiest" bead colors I could find, and found only a few. The clock was ticking and the shape kept growing and I couldn't stop it, but knew I didn't have enough time to let it grow into the size it wanted to be. So I set it aside and started the round pendant (see previous blog post).

Fast forward a couple months and the as yet unfinished bracelet...determined to submit a completely new item to the recent gallery show, I took it out and let it reach it's destined size. It was kind of growing on me, but I probably won't attempt using these colors again anytime soon. Finished in time for the gallery jury day, I submitted it and it was accepted, and just a week later it sold to a lady from France ! And I'm happy to report, I've also sold a necklace I finished last December and three pairs of earrings ! I think my "year of inertia" has finally come to a close :-)

This pen eases my guilt

This is a confession that troubles the environment and me: I drink a lot of water sold in plastic bottles.

Water is the only liquid that satisfies my thirst and I don't like contributing to the flow of new plastic into landfills or recycling bins. But I do. Every day.

Well the Jacksonville, Fla.-based Pilot Corporation of America has come up with a pen that eases my guilt over buying so many of those bottles of water.

It has introduced the world's first ink pen manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. Its B2p gel roller is cool because its body even looks a bit like a tiny bottle of water. And the pens are refillable, which makes me even happier.

In my job as a reporter I use/lose a lot of pens.

I bought mine yesterday at a Rite Aid in Monongahela, Pa. The pens also can be purchased at Staples, Walgreens, Amazon, Walmart and Office Depot and starting next month, Target, the company tells me today in a Tweet.

BIG SHOP UPDATE!!

BIG shop update tonight at 8pm EST: necklaces, magnets, new prints, and handspun yarn!

It's all the goodies I have been meaning to post for quite some time now.

I had time today due to one of my New Year's resolutions: to devote more time to my Etsy shop and make it (and art/crafting in general) more of a priority in my life. In order to accomplish this goal, I decided to take 2 days off a week from work to focus on art. Since I'm not paying rent anymore (I'm living in a house now.), I don't have a huge budget and can afford to not work so many hours at my day job. It's the first day of my new plan, and already it has been working out wonderfully! I woke up at 6am because I was so excited about my day off from the job and working at home, ha ha.

Some of my other goals for the new year? Get back into painting. Draw/be creative daily. Make 1,000 Etsy sales. Teach an online screen printing course. Spend more time with my baby dog and my parents. Take more photographs...

Some of these are pretty lofty goals (1,000 sales?!), but I am determined to make my dreams come true this year! Wish me luck! What are some of your goals for the new year?
