Greece Coalition Splinters, Austerity Vote Delayed, PM Warns of 'Chaos'; Another Puppet Show or Is This For Real?
In Greece, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras coalition has split. The result is yet another delay in an austerity vote required for the next tranche of loans to Greece, and the PM warns of 'chaos'.
Is the inevitable about to happen or is this simply another puppet show for the masses?
Having seen so many puppet shows only to see the leftist puppets succumb to warnings of chaos or worse, I simply do not know.
However, when this coalition finally does splinter to smithereens, the radical left will win the next election and promptly tell the Troika to go to hell.

Greece's conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is at odds with the Democratic Left party, a coalition partner, which is threatening to vote against the new austerity measures unless labor reforms included in them are scrapped.Another Puppet Show or Is This For Real?
Samaras formed a coalition with the traditional rival Socialists and the Democratic Left after general elections in June. In a statement, the prime minister said he had "exhausted all the available time" to try and reach a consensus.
"The problem is not whether we (introduce) this measure or that measure. On the contrary: It is what we would do if no agreement is reached and the country is led into chaos."
Unemployment in Greece has topped 25 percent, with rapidly worsening poverty that has prompted the Democratic Left to harden its position.
"There are certain issues for us that are fundamental ? like labor issues," Theodoros Margaritis, a senior member of the Democratic Left party, told private Skai television. "The dilemma is with Mr. Samaras. Does he want a left-wing party in his government or not? Does he want our consent on certain issues or does he want to proceed alone? If he wants, he may proceed alone."
Cracks in Greece's coalition government are likely to be tested late Tuesday when lawmakers are set to vote on a privatization bill. The new law would give the government broader powers to privatize public utilities, but is facing growing dissent from deputies in the Socialist party and Democratic Left.

Getting used to seasonal shifts in daylight hours has been one of the hardest things to adapt to since moving to Europe. Although I spent many years in New Zealand when I was young, I lived near the equator long enough to develop a preference for daylight hours of equal length all year round. Still, being dragged comatose around the countryside by the dog early every morning means I'm still guaranteed to get a small dose of sunshine every day.

Needle Tatting Tutorial Uploaded !
It was so hard getting this project off the ground. My Windows Movie Maker maker and I were no longer married, so I had to figure out how to do it myself :-/ and I had to wait until the mood hit (which is the way I've been operating since we split). Anyway, I figured out how to import, drag and drop, add fades, titles, captions and music (which disappeared when I added narration...arrrgh !) and voila ! My second tute in two years. Now that I know how, there will be more to come :-) I prefer making photo sequences because if I screw up while in the middle of a project, I would have to start another one and work up to that point just to re-record the video. Maybe I'll use video with a quick project. However, I have a very vocal parrot who tends to dominate the airwaves whenever he senses something important is going on (aarrgh !). I hope you like the video (don't know why it looks so out of focus...the photos were crystal clear when I was working with them...maybe compression altered them...oh, well).

Fed and ECB Smokescreens to Print Money
Fresh on the heels of ECB president Mario Draghi's Lies In Defense Bond Purchases, Including a Warning of Deflation comes news of an unexpected rise in Eurozone price inflation.
Economists had expected price inflation to drop, instead Eurostat reports Euro area inflation estimated at 2.7% up from 2.6% in August.
Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy (9.2% compared with 8.9% in August) is expected to have the highest annual rate in September, followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (2.9% compared with 3.0%), services (2.0% compared with 1.8%) and non-energy industrial goods (0.8% compared with 1.1%).

Smokescreens to Print Money
As with the Fed, apparently the ECB does not consider the two key things people need (food and energy) as important. Instead the ECB appears to be worried about deflation in non-energy industrial goods.
Appearances are deceiving. All this talk of inflation and deflation is nothing but a smokescreen for the ECB and the Fed to do what they want to do: print money.
Both central banks can and do bend their words at will, to make whatever policy decisions they want.
ECB president Mario Draghi even went so far as to proclaim fighting deflation gave it a mandate to break the treaty under which it was formed.
Draghi's stance has nothing to do with prices or price stability but rather everything to do with the implosion of the eurozone economy, the implosion of eurozone credit, the sorry state of European banks, the rise of radical movements in Greece and Spain, and of course the very existence of the euro itself.
He can't come out and say "the ECB does not care about prices right now", and he certainly cannot spout out the reasons as noted in the above paragraph, so instead he spouts outright lies hoping someone will believe him.

French toast � la Scooterlicious
WEBSTER, Pa. ? While enjoying the luxury of a staycation this week with no other plans than to relax it's a great opportunity to experiment in the kitchen.
I developed a craving for French toast the other day after seeing a photo of the breakfast food on an Instagram post, but thought the white-bread variety had become boring.
While gathering the ingredients yesterday at Giant Eagle Market District in Robinson, Pa., I decided to go with a pecan raisin whole wheat bread and dress it up with sliced banana cooked in a raspberry sauce.
It turned out awesome, especially thanks to the bakers at the great supermarket on steroids that has become one of my favorite places to shop, eat, drink a beer and chill.
The raspberry sauce with banana recipe:
2 Tbs butter
2 heaping Tbs. Smucker's Simply Fruit Seedless Red Raspberry Spreadable Fruit
1 ripe banana, sliced into 1-inch discs
Melt the butter and spreadable fruit on a low-to-medium flame and fry the banana discs a few minutes on each side and set aside, covered.
French toast:
4 slices of Giant Eagle Market District pecan raisin whole wheat bread
3 large eggs, whipped
1 Tbs butter
4 Tbs olive oil, approximately
A dusting of powdered sugar
Melt butter into the olive oil over a medium flame in a large skillet.
Dip both sides of the bread in the egg batter and fry on each side until brown. I poured extra egg over the bread as it cooked to give it volume because the bread wasn't all that absorbent.
Garnish with banana and sauce, dust with powdered sugar and enjoy. Serves two.

Vintage summer
In honour of the most gorgeous summer weather we've been having in the UK for the last week, here's a collection of images that give me good summer vibes. They're all examples of a vintage/ethereal type post-processing treatment that I really like, has a very nostalgic and soft summery feel about it. I've experimented a little to try and replicate the look of this with some of my own pictures, but haven't really been satisfied with many of the results so far - can't quite get the same soft pastel feel happening. Shooting in RAW on a 50mm with slight overexposure seems to be a good start

Markit Flash France PMI� shows further marked contraction of French private sector output at start of Q4.
Markit Flash Eurozone PMI� shows the Eurozone downturn deepens at start of fourth quarter as PMI hits 40-month low.
For a change, I am in 100% agreement with Chris Williamson. European GDP has been resilient but do not expect it to last. Germany has been resilient and do not expect that to last either.

Markit Flash Germany PMI� shows Manufacturing weakness behind moderate drop in German private sector output during October.

At 48.1 in October, the seasonally adjusted Markit Flash Germany Composite Output Index was down from 49.2 during September and signalled a further moderate reduction in overall private sector business activity. The index has now posted below the neutral 50.0 value for six consecutive months. With the latest reading close to the average for Q3 2012 (47.9), the latest survey suggests an ongoing lack of momentum across the German private sector economy.
Lower levels of output were recorded in both the manufacturing and service sectors during October, with the former indicating the sharper decline over the month. The slight drop in services activity followed signs of stabilisation during September, while the sub-50 index reading for manufacturing production was the seventh in as many months.
Manufacturers pointed to a sharp and accelerated decrease in new orders intakes during October, thereby extending the current period of decline to 16 months. Reports from survey respondents overwhelmingly cited weakness in export markets, especially southern Europe. A number of firms also mentioned subdued demand from the automobiles sector. Some panel members pointed to signs of a slowdown in Asia, especially for investment goods. Overall levels of new work from abroad in the manufacturing sector dropped at the second-fastest rate since April 2009 (only exceeded by the fall this August).

Commenting on the Markit Flash Germany PMI� survey data, Tim Moore, Senior Economist at Markit said:
?Germany?s private sector suffered a disappointing lack of momentum in October, reversing the signs of a step in the right direction during the previous month. The ?flash? output index fell back from September?s four-month high largely in response to a sharper drop in manufacturing production.

The performance of the French private sector economy remained weak in October. The latest Flash PMI� data signalled only a slight easing in the rate of decline of output from September?s three-and-a-half year record. The Markit Flash France Composite Output Index, based on around 85% of normal monthly survey replies, registered 44.8, showing only a small rise from the previous figure of 43.2.
Although moderating since the previous month, rates of contraction remained considerable for both services and manufacturing output.
Panellists generally attributed lower activity levels to a further drop in incoming new business. The index measuring overall new work was only marginally above September?s 41-month low, and remained indicative of a steep pace of decline. Anecdotal evidence pointed to weak demand conditions amid a difficult economic climate. There were reports that clients, especially some firms in the autos sector, had postponed orders and reined in investment due to a lack of confidence in the outlook. Manufacturers again recorded a particularly steep drop in new work, primarily reflective of domestic weakness but also affected by the fastest fall in export sales since May 2009.
The rate of decline in employment in the French private sector remained marked in October, holding steady from September?s 33-month record. Job shedding was broad-based across the manufacturing and service sectors.

Summary

Output continued to fall in response to a further marked contraction in new orders. The rate of decline in new business eased slightly since September, which had seen the largest drop since June 2009.

"The Eurozone has slid further into decline at the start of the fourth quarter. The survey is running at a level which is historically consistent with the region?s economy contracting at a quarterly rate of over 0.5%. Official data have shown surprising resilience over the summer compared to the survey data, but the underlying business climate has clearly deteriorated markedly in recent months. While GDP may decline only modestly in the third quarter, a steeper fall looks to be on the cards for the fourth quarter."
"The financial markets may have cheered the positive developments from policymakers in seeking to resolve the region?s debt crisis, notably the promise of bond market intervention by the ECB, but business appears to have been less impressed. Sentiment about prospects for the year ahead are now the gloomiest since early-2009,
when the post-Lehman Brothers crisis was in full swing."
"In addition to worries about the health of domestic markets, companies are also seeing demand weaken further afield, notably in Asia and, to a lesser extent, the US. Worries about the outlook have translated into further job losses, suggesting companies are moving increasingly into cost-cutting mode. Even Germany is not immune, with October seeing the first back-to-back monthly fall in employment since early-2010."

Recently, a fellow "Coco-nut" (fan of Conan O'Brien ) ordered a pair of my Starflower Earrings . She wanted me to choose the colors and her only requirement was that the two colors be contrasting. I tried to elicit more info from her, and finally established that she likes metals, so I picked out a copper and gunmetal color scheme. The plan worked ! She loves them ! Whew ! Plus, I included a strip of stickers I made using my beaded Conan logo from the old "Late Night" show...she loved those too :-)

Crazy eyes
Donkeys always make such easy photography subjects. Odds on they'll wander up to the fenceline, pull a stupid face and the rest is up to you...One of the problems with photography in England is the extreme narrowness of a lot of the rural roads. While I'm driving around with one eye on the road and the other on potential photo ops, I need a third eye to spot any potential spot where I can pull up. The size of some of the roads here can make driving a very interesting gamble...

Embellishing the Runway (with beads !)
Project Runway season 9 is in full swing, and this year, I decided (last minute) to join in the fun of designing accessories for each week's winning outfit and posting them in a Flickr group called
Embellishing the Runway. I knew about it last year from my beading friends on Facebook but didn't think I could keep up at the time. This year seems right so I joined a day before the first week deadline. I managed to create a simple bracelet which captures the colors of the winning design by Bert Keeter. I used a basic four bead herringbone stitch which works up quickly and chose some greys and orange (the closest thing I had was more of a pumpkin color). The winning design for this week seems to have stirred up alot of controversy and I'm late starting so it looks like some midnight beading sessions are in order this week ! More pictures posted in the coming weeks (fingers/beading needles crossed !)
