17 Day Diet Gains Popularity

Want to lose weight fast? The 17 Day Diet promises quick results with a four-stage program that varies the number of calories and types of foods permitted.

During the first 'accelerated' stage, dieters are restricted to around 1200 calories daily. No foods are completely ruled out but there are guidelines. Substitute fruit for sugar, use mustard instead of mayo and limit specific carbs. The program also advocates 17 minutes of daily walking.

The 17 Day Diet gained popularity after 'The Doctors' and 'Dr. Phil' featured incredible weight loss stories. ABC News profiled a woman who list 13 pounds in 17 days, calling the process 'easy'; she went on to lose 36 pounds in four months.
