Joan Collins, Liz Taylor Competition

Filed under:

Joan Collins has been married five times; Elizabeth Taylor, eight times to seven men. When Collins divorced fourth husband Peter Holm, her longtime friend sent a joking note: 'I'm still ahead by three.'

Collins responded that she would 'catch up' with Taylor but at age 77 and married for nine years to Percy Gibson, 32 years her junior, it looks like Collins will forever remain second to Taylor.

In the days following Taylor's death from congestive heart failure at age 79, memories have poured in from celebrities. Collins and Taylor were friends for decades, sharing a 'salty turn of phrase' and British sense of humor.

The best quote came from fellow '50s star Debbie Reynolds, whose husband left her for Taylor: 'Women liked her and men adored her--my husband included.'
