Remembering the Challenger Disaster

Do you remember where you were when the Challenger exploded? For many, the disaster is a moment stuck in time similar to JFK's assassination or September 11.

Today we pause on the 25th anniversary of the disaster many watched live. All seven astronauts onboard died when the Challenger exploded 73 seconds after takeoff from Kennedy Space Center.

Christa McAuliffe, the first private citizen and teacher in space, is remembered for her plan teach kids about space while in orbit above Earth.

The night of the disaster, President Reagan gave the speech of his career: 'We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them: This morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and "slipped the surly bonds of Earth" to "touch the face of God."'
