Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is speaking in complete sentences and has regained her short-term memory, but does not remember being shot. Her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, told her that she was shot January 8 but not about the six people killed and 18 injured during the same Tucson incident. In a Friday news conference, doctors described Giffords' neurological abilities as improving by 'leaps and bounds.' Her breathing tube will be removed this week.
Giffords intends to attend next month's launch of the space shuttle Endeavour, commanded by her husband. She will be in the family section at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., where she is not expected to be seen by the public.
