Gilbert Gottfried Fired As Aflac Duck

Filed under:

Aflac's duck may soon sound a little different. Longtime spokesman Gilbert Gottfried was fired yesterday by the insurance company after a string of joking tweets referencing the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

'I just split up with my girlfriend, but like the Japanese say, "They'll be another one floating by any minute now,"' one tweet said. The offensive tweets have since been deleted from Gottfried's Twitter page.

Aflac, which does 75% of its business in Japan, distanced itself from Gottfried's comments in a statement: 'There is no place for anything but compassion and concern during these difficult times.'

Gottfried has voiced the iconic Aflac duck since 2000. He's made no public remarks since being fired and hasn't tweeted since Sunday.
