Anna Nicole Smith: The Opera Debuts

First was 'Jerry Springer: The Opera.' Now that show's co-creator has turned the life of Anna Nicole Smith into an opera that debuted in London last night.

'Anna Nicole' follows the rise and fall of the troubled Texan model who married a man 62 years her senior. The press gave the opera mixed reviews, saying it 'overtly puts America on trial' and 'fell like a failed soufflé.' Other reviewers called it a 'modern morality tale,' 'immaculately slick' and 'hard to empathize with.'

Smith died of a drug overdose at age 39 after rising to fame by posing for Playboy, Guess and Lane Bryant. In her later years, Smith was a tabloid fixture for her fluctuating weight and crazy antics. A legal battle rages on over her late husband's estate and how much inheritance will go to Smith's daughter. The Supreme Court has agreed to re-hear the case.
