In October 2009, Toyota recalled nearly five million vehicles to reshape or replace accelerator pedals. An additional 2.3 million were recalled in January 2010 for 'sticking accelerator pedals,' which were blamed for unintended acceleration leading to more than a dozen deaths.
Affected car owners will be notified by mail and dealers will fix the problem at no charge. Recalled vehicles: 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner, 2004-2006 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2006-2010 Toyota RAV4, 2008-2011 Lexus LX, 2006-2007 Lexus GS 300 and 350 all-wheel-drive models and 2004-2007 Lexus RX 330, 350 and 400h.
