More than 22,000 people took part in the study, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, including nearly 8,200 participants who used marijuana and had a psychotic illness.
What does this mean? The study concludes that there is 'evidence for a relationship between cannabis use and earlier onset of psychotic illness' and supports 'the hypothesis that cannabis use plays a causal role in the development of psychosis in some patients.'
Medical marijuana is legal in 15 states and Washington, DC.
