Snow Cripples Northeast

Heavy snow has crippled much of the northeast today, with major traffic and public transportation delays all along the Eastern seaboad. In Washington, abandoned cars are clogging roads slick with ice and coated with snow.

More than 15 inches of snow fell in New York's Central Park while snow-weary Boston got a foot. As much as 17 inches of snow covered Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey topped out at 19 inches.

Heavy snow created major power problems and much of the Washington region is experiencing electrical outages, meaning no heat during cold days and nights. Dominion Power told WTOP it would be several days until power was restored to all of its customers and BGE said bucket trucks to fix downed power lines can't go up until winds die down.
